Need

5,000 health care workers were leaving the Philippines annually in the years leading up to 2010. Hospitals were closing and many communities had no access to basic health care.

Action/results

Training offered to 90 women in a disadvantaged section of Manila to become Community Health Workers who would have basic skills to help their neighbours in maternal and infant care, first aid and proper medication use.
